Leather Armour?

The first one is a brass cuirass painted black.

This is a perfect illustration of my point. How can anyone tell whether a painting is depicting leather or metal armour when it is difficult to tell the difference in a photo of an actual item?

So would you say that these cuirass' are purely fantasy?

Forgot to say that this leather cuirass with the pegasus decoration and brass scales is a wonderful piece of work. It is pure fantasy but it is absolutely beautiful.
