Herodotus taks about the Libyans using hide for all kinds of things. What are you after?

The anonymous author of the work de Rebus Bellicis (XV) refers to the (in)famous thoracomachus being protected from the elements by 'Libyan hide'.

Silius Italicus (poet) refers to the Libyans using red-dyed leather, but I don't know if that's similar to 'Libyan hide'.

I am looking for a source for „Libyan hide” as protective clothing or armour-cover as mentioned in “De Reb. Bell.”
Herodot appears very promising! Does he mention goat-leather?
