No worries! We actually don't know for certain how it was done, but this is a simple and non-controversial solution:

Easy enough to change if we find a better way, too!

Generally speaking, it is thought that the pugio was held on by only the top two rings, fastened in [plug in your favorite theory] way to a "frog", on the belt.

Right, the pugio hangs from "frogs" or suspension discs, most likely tied with thongs or cords. The upper scabbard rings are always shown level with the belt, so the popular little "buttoned" straps often used by reenactors are not really correct because the let the scabbard hang too low.

Be careful with this, you should use leather which is absolutely strong enough. I once used leather that appeared to be not, and it's quite stupid to lose your sword during drills. I was however carrying a spatha so the weight was greater, but still.

i just rivetted 2 belts together, and it fits perfect it does'nt swing and it is easy to ajust, just swich one hole up and down.
but it is not a split belt as many reeanactors use. i made this in 1/2 hour just puncing holes in the belt.

Seems to be a very logical use of the four scabbard rings to me, Jos. I like your solution.
