That's thinking fast, nice photo opportunity. I'm glad you managed to get together despite the funding cut. Are you trying again for 2012? Or is it all on hold for the time being?

Well, most probably not for 2012, as there will be the big 1st century festival in Nijmegen already (having too much historical events in a row in the same range of 4 km doesn't work well), we think about the next LRE to be planned in 2013. Then it should be bigger again. As for 2012, we nevertheless would like to field a smaller bunch of late roman soldiers at the Nijmegen festival.

Dear Friends,

Last year, we had to cancel LRE IV, and instead we hosted a zero-budget LRW in the MuseumPark Oriëntalis (MPO) in Nijmegen. It was a great success (see above). So much so, that the museum took our offer of repeating that weekend, for which we owe them a big thanks.
This year, we have a (limited) budget, and the MPO will take care of our food, which means we can invite more of you.
Also, instead op pitching our tents at the karavanserai and marching to the village for the weapons drill, we get to stay in the buildings alongside the ‘Via Romana’ (Ctesiphon in the images), which was renovated over the winter (no, we did NOT sack the town)..

Images of last year’s event:

and

Again, our targets are limited. Unlike earlier LRE’s we will not host a day-long program, we have carte blanche so we can plan what we want. We hope to ‘grow’ the event for 2013 though, so we hope you will all come along and repeat the success and especially the fun we had last year.

Best wishes,
Robert Vermaat, Fectio

Only a few days to go to LRE IV next weekend! We have 40 soldiers and civilians who will be populating the town of 'Dura Europos'.

What an amazing "venue"! That knocks the spots of anything I've seen in the UK so far!

Have a great time, everyone. We are sad that we can't be there because we have an event at Burgh-le-Marsh in Lincolnshire.

We'll drink a toast to you and hope the weather is better than last time we met (at least you will have buildings this time!)

Thanks all. Well, the weather may prove indeed to be a match - a good Saturday and a wet Sunday. But indeed, we have the buildings this time.

Back from the event ... well, at least the body. My mind ´s still there!

It was absolutely breathtaking! Thanks, Robert & Fectio for organizing the great event. I really hope, that this year will come enough visitors to keep the park open for the next years.

Can´t wait for the next LRE ... ;-)
