Jurjen, the screws are in the BOX hinges, not the tongs. Yes, nails would be a good alternative to attach a hinge to a box.

I hope not to mess with my English but I think that Demetrius and Jvrjenivs are talking about two different things.
I think the main problem were the screws of the wooden box.
I now have not yet very experienced and wait for confirmation of some expert but I remember a replica wooden box in a museum and use bronze nails.

Yes, it's the hinges on the box I was talking about. The rivet on the "pliers" is perfect, and the right application. I was asking about how the screws would be replaced.

Nails are the only things I can think of, and nails don't usually secure a hinge that gets much use.

Ow, yes, now I see. Sorry for getting it wrong. Indeed, then nails should be used (although rivets also can do the job). Anyway, the hinge could be better placed on the outside, so the nail goes through the wood and can be peened on the inside.
