some new Pugio
#1
Hi All,

Its been a while since I have posted something new here, I present you with two new Pugio,
The first is a combination of the Haltern Pugio with the sheath of Auerberg made for the LEG VIII experimental march project

The second is the reproduction of the sheath decorated with mythology scenes well know from the drawing by R. Forrer in Weapons of the Romans by Michel Feugère

Having handles the Auerberg one myself, I certainly vouch for your work, Luc. It's just gorgeous. I wish I had either the money to let you make me one, or the skill to make one myself. Well done!

Excellent work Luc! They are both every bit as good as your previous work.

I was wondering about the second one though, from the Forrer drawing. Your workmanship, of course, is excellent, but I was under the impression that the jury was still out on the authenticity of this piece. Is there now a secure provenance? If so I would be very keen to know more, as the piece is unique amongst recorded specimens.

Thanks Guys, it feels good to be back

Jurjen: - Yes, I like to work as close to the originals as possible, that give them the right feeling

Crispus: - I had the opportunity to handle and examine this sheath in person, its provenace based on a document should be Italy, the sheath is in the collection of the Louvre Museum, I am working on an article with the history and description of the sheath and the corrosion attached blade

For the Haltern/Auerberg pugio/sheath, there will be an article of the How to in the book of Christian’s Leg VIII experimental march

Cezary: - sure, pm an e-mail address

Cheers
