How old was Spartacus really?
#1
I was watching the BBC production about Spartacus last night and now I am asking myself how old Spartacus and the other gladiators really were.
The actors who play gladiators in films like „Spartacus" with Kirk Douglas or „Gladiator" with Russel Crow are usually mature men between 30 and 40 but I think that in reallity many gladiators were younger, maybe between 15 and 25.
Spartacus was already an experienced warrior when he was caught by the Romans but I doubt that he was older then 25 when he started the revolt. Kirk Douglas was 44 when Kubrick produced „Spartacus" in 1960.
So what do you think?

Thanks for your interest.

I think we can safely say that, after 71 BC, he didn't get any older.
