Foot protection in battle

Interesting thing about this "foot armor" is the hinge near the toes and the fact it does not look like a solid piece, but rather to be place on top. The hinge is where the foot bends when walking near the toes, which gives the appearance it could be worn while walking. Near the ankle there appears to be holes (could be corrosion) which may allow the piece to be attatched to a shoe or around the foot. None the less a fantastic piece!

Some of them had hinges and some not. For example this one to the right seems more archaic and doesn't have hinges.

A closer look on the BM foot guards reveals holes between each toe,presumably for thongs that secured them to the shoe. Interestingly,each guard has different number of holes...
