It's likely. Charlemagne was the great-great-great-grandson of St. Arnoul, Bishop of Metz. Historians aren't 100% certain about Arnoul's father and grandfather. If his dad was Arnoald, below, and Ansbertus really existed, then this is one lineage in which Charlemagne's ancestry can be traced back to Rome:

Arnoald/Arnoldus de Moselle/of the Schelde, Duke (~560-~601), son of
Ansbertus (mythical) Gallo-Roman Senator of Schelde (~523-~570), son of
Ferreolus of Rodez, Roman Senator of Narbonne (~475), son of
Tonantius II "Vir Clarissimus" Ferreolus (~445-~513), Praetorian prefect of Gaul, Gallo-Roman Senator, son of
Tonantius Ferreolus, Praetorian prefect of Gaul (418-475), son of
Probus Ferreolos Tonantius of Rome (~390)

Dear Eric,

I have just joined this site because I stumbled upon your post concerning the lineage of Tonantius Ferreolus.

I am in the process of attempting to piece that lineage together.

Please could you inform me of where you get your information from and whether you have any more on this particular subject?

Many thanks,

CREM
