Salve,

just saw a program on BBc regarding the top ten of treasures of the British museum. The top ten consisted of:
- Sutton Hoo ship-burial
- Vindolanda Tablets
- Lewis Chessmen
- Snettisham Hoard
- Mildenhall Treasure
- Mold gold cape
- Rillaton Cup
- Hoxne Hoard
- Fishpool Hoard
- Cuerdale Hoard

The experts claimed the Vindolanda Tablets as the most important treasure of the British museum because these tablets are real history, they tell about the real, ordinairy people.
(BTW - The sutton-hoo was voted by the people as the most important one).

i fully agree with this. All that gold and silver are mighty impressive but the stories of the ordinairy people are far more interesting. Those brings history really to life. Makes you realize that people then were just people like you and me: inviting people to come to your birthday party, duty rolls, complaining about the terrible roads or prices of the transports. That's real history.
