Sallian Hymn
#1
New guy here. Just found this place and joined immediately. Been looking for a place like this for a long time.
My question: Are there any surviving fragments of the Sallian hymn? This would be the hymn to Mars sung (presumably) in March buy the priests of Mars. It is my understanding that by the late republic it was not intelligible to the Romans. Which would mean, I assume, that it was not in Latin, or it was a primitive kind of Latin. Your thoughts? Also, can you post a link or give references to any surviving fragments.

With the influence of the Etruscans being so strong over Rome, and my understanding that Etruscan priests were still active after the Etruscan language disappeared, could this have been in Etruscan? I know there were some Roman rituals that were in languages long forgotten but memorized by priests.
Richard Campbell, Legio XX.
