September 2, 44 BC: Pharaoh Cleopatra VII of Egypt elevates her son Caesarion to co-ruler. Caesarion was his nickname (little Caesar), his full name being Ptolemy XV Philopator Philometor Caesar (June 23, 47 BC – August 23, 30 BC).
September 2, 44 BC: Cicero launches the first of his Philippics (oratorical attacks) on Marc Antony. He will make 14 of them over the following months.
September 2, 31 BC: Battle of Actium (off the western coast of Greece), naval forces of Octavian defeat the combined Roman and Egyptian fleets under Mark Antony and Cleopatra. The battle was lost when Cleopatra's ships withdrew, after which panic spread across Mark Anthony's ships.
September 2, 421 AD: Death of Flavius Constantius of natural causes, after having been emperor for just 7 months (from February 8) .
