You were. I was there, too. I saw you, but you didn't recognize me, and then you were gone.

Hopefully won't be as riddled with bugs as E:TW was, though I won't keep my hopes up.
Probably won't buy it, don't trust the developers anymore.

I wish they hadn't moved steadily away from historical accuracy and challenging strategy, and towards fancy graphics and what they think the audience expects to see, with every new game. Their model works better for 16th century Japan than the ancient world, but that doesn't mean they will use it well this time. So while I haven't read their marketing for Shogun II, my hopes are low.

Fancy graphics aren't the problem, lazy treatment of history is.
Still having nightmares about Hussite rebels popping up in 11th century Germany, or William's Normans wearing 12th century (-inspired) armor in Medieval Total War II.

Empire Total War sort of slid out of my consciousness, even though I have it, I guess I just don´t like guns. Personally, I´d like them to do the Bronze Age in the age of Kadesh

The problem is that as far as I can tell they spend all their budget of time, attention, and money on graphics and market research, and hardly any on historical research. Fancy graphics are a problem if to hire two more graphics programmers they don't hire three historians. (Edit: Perhaps a more realistic example: how many meetings do the designers discuss how best to model history, and how many do they discuss the merits of various graphics technologies or whether flaming pigs are cool enough to eat up a unit slot?)

I will most definetely get it...

I am an avid TW player, all eras and was there when the first Shogun came out in 2001..

About historical research. Do not forget that for the first Shogun game the Historical consultant was dr. Stephen Turnbull, one of the major and leading scholars on Samurai warfare. The only silly things were the battlefield ninjas and the Kenshin mega fighters...

Also for this new game, they have used period correct armour, units and ways of fighting. The Samurai clans are historically correct for the period, as are their KaMon clan badges. There is not much in the game which is not historically correct, as far as Samurai warfare goes, maybe, except for the use of fire to burn castles down.
Further it irritates me that the units on the battlefield wear their daisho without sheaths, which in real life would lead to many accidents, let alone the total cutting through the belt and sageo...

Not having played it yet i cannot comment though about the entire game.
The Ninja video they put on was nice, but had a little bit too much humor for my liking in it.......

The old TW videos of the Ninja and Geisha assassinations were also very accurate.

But if this is any indication....

I will spend many many hours playing it....

Well, the game's out but frankly, I'll wait until they bring out a Gold edition including expansions. Also waiting until I have a new (monstrous) PC; I want to run everything on max I'm afraid.
