Nick Fuentes (1934-2010)
#1
A friend has asked me to pass on the sad news that Nick Fuentes passed away last wednesday.

Even many of us who did not have chance to meet Nick will be familiar with his work. He wrote an influential study of Roman military tunic colour and also an excellent resume on the evidence for marching packs. His contribution to our hobby is both significant and lasting.

Please send me a PM, for those wishing to send condolences to Pamela.

That is very sad to hear. Indeed, his theories about military clothing have been very influential.

Sad to hear of this loss. The man was truly a credit to us all. Truly objectively studying the sources and reaching a conclusion instead of having a conclusion and search in the sources for evidence is rarer than we often are willing to admit.
My condoleances.

I only met Nick Fuentes briefly when he was still a member of The Ermine Street Guard. He gave a talk at one of the first AGM's I attended, probably in 1984, on the evidence he was then collecting for Roman tunic colours. He has certainly been an influence in my life.

As pointed out he also wrote an article on the marching pack.

Very sad news indeed and my condolences to his friends and family.

I too met Nick Fuentes around half-a-dozen times in the early eighties - a quiet (mostly) and thoughtful man. He almost persuaded me to join the ESG, but they were too far away from where I then lived.......

A sad loss to the community of those interested in the Roman Military.
