What would we like to find in a Roman library?

I'd be much duller and go for the filing cabinets of the Roman equivalent of the Ministry of Defence- org charts, reports from the front, requests for reinforcements, battle reports etc etc....

Do we know they actually had these? I can easily imagine earlier versions of the Notitia Dignitatum, but why would sitreps rach the DoD? Such reports would go the commander in charge and then to the governor, but why all the way to Rome?
Heh, if only there had been a Roman equivalent to the Pentagon... :?

I think that the best we can hope for are some generals' memoirs of famous (or better: unknown) campaigns...

Of course, the owner of the library could have been a commander at some stage, so if he was allowed to keep reports he received (or copies of them), in such a scenario they they could be found in his library. I don't think that sort of thing is likely to have been found in most people's libraries of course. That said, in the spirit of the parameters I originally set, I too would love to see such a thing.

Another thing I would like to see would be a life of Alexander written within a generation of his death.

Ptolemy wrote one right? The original would most likely be at the Library in Alexandria. Here's hoping for inter library loan!
