Catching up with Legion tech

Finally helmet makers are starting to catch up with the the Legion's armorers. Too bad they didn't ask those who actually wear helmets occasionally about the designs
tested in battle for a few hundred years rather than starting from scratch.

Yeah, but just goes to show that even when 'starting from scratch', how designers, et al, come up with surprisingly similar solutions to age-old problems Big Grin

I'd guess the idea is that it has to fit around those goggles soldiers use these days (and sunglasses or regular glasses). I think the googles are lightly armoured against fragments.

Back in WW I, didn't helmet designers look to medieval armour for ideas? That's how the Germans ended up wearing pseudo-sallets, and the British something like those broad-brimmed iron caps used by medieval infantry.
