Natural objects like creeks, rivers, gorges etc. are often used as boundries. They need not have defensive purposes, just serve for marking a line, saying "that side is your, this side is mine" . So even a small river is very suitable as a boundry in that respect.

In my home town we use aluminum green signs about 2x2 feet in diameter. I could use them for shields which gives some form of defensive purpose. :lol:
