One of the scabbard mouth plates featured a long triangular slot, demonstrating that it was from a sheath meant for a single edged weapon, probably a scameseax.

I too noticed that but then the long oval shape overlapping the width of the blade seems not to be too typical of a scrammasax hilt but is so of a sword hilt.

Some early Viking swords had single edge blades using the same hilt form as the double edged swords of the same era http://www.vikingsword.com/petersen/ptsn054.html so maybe this was a single edge sword?
