It's nice to see them in action (as it were), we're glad they arrived safely and are now being used so well. Thank you for commissioning them. We've been tracking down some more research on the subject,; there is a display in a museum in Scotland also showing horse harness with beads, about which we're hoping to find more information shortly. We'll post any relevant information as we acquire it.

Cheers guys. Beads seem to be an area Roman re-enactors have overlooked.
These are some melon beads on a very tired horse. [attachment=0:2gh3zfg6]<!-- ia0 IMG00012-20100409-1419.jpg<!-- ia0 [/attachment:2gh3zfg6] Hal is being worked around 3 hours a day and he will still not be fully ready for the nrew season. But it is fun learning with him.

Not the one in Edinburgh is it? I thought I saw the harness sets in there! Can you let us know where, just for curiosity sake please?

It is in the museum in Edinburgh. I put in a call to the person in charge of the collections, no reply yet. May have to follow up with a letter, asking about finds, etc.

Hmmmm.....
When you get kicked in the cheek the melon bead which fastens the helmet bruises the chin nicely.

The greeve, thigh guard and helmet will all be mended by the end of this weekend. I was fine, but my pride got dented. I had to switch helmets and reduce the amount of equipment the horse was carrying.

That damage looks painful! Was your amount of padding satisfactory? Glad to hear you're OK.
