Binchester WOW
#16
Brian it is a must, there is a wall further along from the bathhouse that looks like it is on the surface but a test pit has reveled it is just keep going down. I just cannot post a pic right now. The alters are spectacular one has no writing on it, the Architect one has a bull on one side. Will be back there on August bank hoilday so will see what they uncover next.
Regards Brennivs.

Tony.
What I find so strange is that compared to most other Roman places in our area there does not appear to have been the same type of stone robbing at this site which of course is just fantastic, then compared to Corbridge the medieval and modern town there is so much closer than things are at Binchester that has maybe helped.

I spent a good while looking at these the Sunday morning when everyone was still fast asleep. Awesome find and just goes to show what treasures there are under our feet

Thats right Brian somebody took the roof off and filled it in :woot: So it is amazing. Even the stone work on the anex is outstanding on the outer wall just as good as Yorks walls

The next thing was a surprize , what they thought was the stone wall underground turned out to be a turf wall and the stone outer wall was built about 6ft outside it.

Those pictures from the bath house certainly look as if they have plaster on them (if you see my earlier post)

Any chance of more info on it, pretty please, Tony?
