I cannot find a review on the web so can anyone please advise me if they are worth a punt?

Hi Conal! I think that Barbarians and Romans: The Birth Struggle of Europe, A.D.400-700
by Justine Davis Randers- Pehrson has a very "old school" feel to it in a positive way and I can recommend it too...
