Tekije buckle 1st century AD
#16
Sulla, I think those are copper rivets in the middle, but could be my eyesight....

Cesar, I was meaning the buckle would really go with my belt made by Erick, which is called the Varus belt in his catalogue!
I understand plates of this type were found at Kalkriese from Erik, but I may have misunderstood that.
I was under the impression that they were a later style of plate too.

Well I thought they may have been copper, but they have a very red look about them in the picture. Maybe just the photography.

I chose these models having tried to preserve the original. Considering that here is two or three sets of silver Roman military belts. Given the differences in size and the differences in styles of construction.

This belt is extremely beautiful and is a masterpiece of military ancient art. Silver buckle is magnificently decorated with flowers or cornucopia. There are two grape leaves on both sides. With location of spheres with different diameter inside the buckle is makes it .. very original.

Buckle and the plate was originally made very complicated. This of course bring me additional difficulties during my work. But the most original for me is the riveted cylindrical element on the belt plates !?!. This is an interesting solution to the ancient artist. All belt plates (which I have seen Smile have convex cones. And things here are complicated with this "inverted cup"

Wax work was in many stages. Due to the complexity of the elements and their small size.

This is are the Pugio Hangers 20/23 gr. In silver I think that to use . Unfortunately I have not the exact dimensions of the Tekije pugio disks. I guess they are about 25 mm.Riveted with silver rivets.

Rado,

Nice work on the buckle. However, to my knowledge, the belt plate was not cast. It would have been made from sheet. The extra pieces would have then been attached.

I'm absolutely agree with you Doc. But now I have an opportunity only for silver cast model. I have an idea for a matrix of forging-hammering belt plate. But the development of such a matrix will come out very expensive. But I have ideas about it.

Belt is heavy around 400 grams of silver. Dimensions of the beltplates are (together with hinges ) -45 mm height (together with rivets ) -50 mm .

Already assembled. It is very difficult for the assembly, because it is composed of many elements and silver is soft and easily deformed. Of course there is still much to be desired..but this will be the final version .. for now
