Late Etruscans??
#1
Hello all Smile

I'm looking for some info on the late Etruscan army in the 280's , like the one defeated at lake Vadimon.

Their equipment, tactics and organisation?? I've found some wargaming miniatures but i've absolutely no idea how accurate these are. For example:

Anyone out there with some nice links or usefull books??

Thanks in advance!

I doubt that you'd see much difference between the Etruscans and the Greeks in terms of military equipment, tactics and organisation. Maybe cosmetic differences in helmet crests and shield decoration but nothing substantial.

See Dan Diffendale's Italica site for panoplies of the mid-fourth to early third centuries BC from Volsinii and Perusia:

I discuss Etruscan tactics, with particular reference to the problematical first battle of Lake Vadimon (310/309 BC), in The Roman Conquests: Italy, chp. 4. In short, I suggest that the Etruscans were fighting in a manner similar to other Italian peoples, i.e. using proto-pila and employing maniple-like subunits.

Cheers,
