Wow Dany boy Confusedhock: ! Who has made this AWESOME helmet!? Would this be a helmet from Alexander's time too or is it too late (hellenistic/successors)helmet?

The watermark says Thorkil Wink But his website seems to be down, as Doc already mentioned.

That is an excellent helmet. Is it mild steel or tinned copper alloy?

Hi everyone.
I am happy that you like the helmet. Smile
I think the link should be working now.
However here is description from my web site:
All elements of helmet, icluding heads of Athena and of Gorgons, has been hand forged. The bowl is constructed of two bowls, riveted at the crest. There is a wooden block inside the crest. Cheekplates has been reconstructed based on other examples of helmets with survived all elements.

I have handforged the helmet in medium carbon steel, Doc.

Congratulations on your work! Truely amazing! One of the best hellenistic helmet reconstructions i have seen. Unfortunately i haven't seen the helmet worn.

What do you think about this reconstruction? Yhat's a helmet of our Carthaginian. During last few envents it survived even a hits of early medieval axe.

Hi Teodor!

Can you please provide the pics of this helmet in another format? There seems to be some difficulties to see the pics both with Mac and pc...

That's more like it ;-) ,

The helmet in itself looks awesome, may I ask who has made it?

A very nice helmet! The original helmet is published in Antike Helme Henk-Jan so you might easily get a copy of this amazing book in the Netherlands easier than it was for me here in the US. There are some very nice photos and line drawings showing the construction of the helmet.

Thorkil is in my opinion one of the best making armour right now. He maintains proper proportions and detail while still adding his own touch to each piece. I would definitely love to spend a few weeks in his shop. I love seeing other smiths shops and I am a tool junkie as I know other smiths are too. I can't say enough about the fine work Thorkil does and I'm sure pictures don't do his work justice. My suggestion is buy his work and pay him double the price so he can make a living at it.
