Thanks for posting, Siggi. This must be the next section of FRE (Frontiers of the Roman Empire) for submission to UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.

The Thesaurus is a nice idea, too. (The entries are not given in the same order in each language, which initially fooled me; but clicking on each one gives a full list of translations. I suppose it was too much to expect Latin as well. )

What is the LegXIV GMV stamp from? Is it an actual tile stamp, or is it a modern creation?

I thought it looked too good to be true. But -- amazingly -- it's from Carnuntum:

Just goes to show - I have been using this for a while and assumed it was common knowledge. It is a particularly valuable resource when you drill down through all the levels and compare it with the available published information. Of course, one inevitably thinks this sort of thing ought to exist for the UK... but then of course we are too busy funding the London Sports Day to bother with 'heritage' in times of recession (which now appears to be exclusively ours). The best British resources (such as Britannia: The Roman Army and Navy in Britain 55BC-410AD) tend to be privately produced and the cheesiest officially done. Good job I'm not bitter ;-) )

There's cheesy ... and then there's just plain embarrassing.

Wow, verging on speechless here. I thought (in all its gaudiness - all that Greek key makes your eyes go a bit funny after a while) it might be a fanboy site until I saw the list of partners... and then I realised I was right ;-) ) Such an imaginative use of Helvetica, and the Research section is, er, a little empty. Still, the forums (no havering over fora) have an interesting USP (keeping The Great Unwashed out):

Quote:The forums here can only be viewed by invitation after registration. If you are a member of the Management Plan Working Group, Access Group, Landscape Group or Protection Group then you will need to register and you will be granted permissions to the relevant board.

Pity there's no User Group. Looks like the Antonine Wall needs open sourcing ;-) )
