The Second Britannian Legion
#1
I am looking for information on the II Britannica; specifically, are the names of any of its soldiers perserved epigraphically? And does anyone know about when it was raised? I have heard a theory that it had its beginnings as a vexillation of the Second Augusta; is there any evidence for this? Thanks

The sum total of the evidence for this unit appears to be the entry in the Notitia Dignitatum for the Gallic field army.

Not that I know of -- the epigraphic record for the late period is uniformly sparse --; and no.

No evidence. Just the supposition that a legion calling itself "from Britain" (Britannica) and bearing the numeral II perhaps had some association with the II Augusta, which was based on the south coast ("Saxon shore") by the time of the Notitia Dignitatum.
