Andriscus and the battle of Pydna 148 BC?
#1
I've come across the second battle of Pydna in 148 BC several times before, but my interest in detail is always left open because i can never find much about the revolt of Andriscus and the sort of army he used to wage the 4th Macedonian war against Rome. I know he had a lot of Thracians in his army, but i also read somewhere (wikipedia) that this battle was the last use of the phalanx against Rome, which i'm sure is wrong as they must have faced the phalanx in the Achaean War fought a year or two down the line.
Does anyone know anything about 2nd Pydna or the Andriscus episode at all? Theres just so little info out there, felt i'd ask here.

I don’t think there is a great deal of information out there about his army. But here are some goodies about the man and his uprising, though:

Diodorus Siculus 31,40a

Diodorus Siculus 32,15

Polybius 36.10

Livy 49.21 – 50 (I think you have to scroll down a bit on this link.)

Do these help?
