New excavation at Arlon
#1
Hello everybody,

During the three last months, a turret and and part of wall has been excavated at Arlon, just behind the City Hall. This was a part of the roman castrum of the III-IV century. Here is a picture dating from october. The wall and the turret will be preserved and will be accessible to the public.

Merci David! Please keep us posted (if only because I hope to visit Arlon in January).

Is this part of the same wall remains that are already on display?

What was the occassion for the new dig? Opportunity or planned?
Is there a possibility of more being uncovered in the furture?

Worth noting that this is a walled town, not a military fortress.

Yes, I did read that in wiki. Despite the fortifications, the Germanic barbarians still managed to sack it!

The area where this turret has been discovered was normaly intended to build an extension of an adjacent building. Fortunately, the discovery of this turret has changed the original plans, and it will be preserved.
