Does anybody here know sthg about this helmet´s context, or have any any information on the dating of this helmet that goes beyond HR Robisnon´s stylistic dating? (e.g. "when was the Besancon amphitheatre built?" , which would give us a terminus pos quem at least.

James Bromwich, The Roman Remains of Northern and Eastern France p. 169 states that the amphitheatre "might" have a 1st century date based on similarities to Nimes and Arles. Wikpedia also dates it simply to the 1st century.
It appears that this helmet was first published in BLEICHER, & BEAUPRE, J.: - Guide pour les recherches archéologiques (époques préhistoriques, Gallo-Romaine et Mérovingienne) dans l'est de la France. Belfort, Doubs, Haute-Sagne, Meurthe-et-Moselle, Meuse, Vosges, 1896, ill. 107 you may find more information there but I doubt that any dating context can be established.

Thanks, Jens.
What a pity. I´d love to have it dated, since then I might be able to use it in my project... ^^
