Samothracian Trophy and Ship Depiction
#1
My professor pointed out to me an interesting marble base with trophy and ship imagery on it. She has asked me to look into it for a paper topic.

I recognize the trophies as similar to ones depicted in Roman art. My professor, however, is rather certain that the depiction is probably Hellenistic. I was wondering if anyone else knew any Hellenistic depictions of trophies that have this same configuration? I know of plenty of this type from Roman depictions but not anything Hellenistic.

I'm also not too sure as to what boats are displayed on this but for that, I feel that some extra source searching will settle it. If anyone has any particularly strong opinions on what boats they might be though, feel free.

The type of marble the carvings are on (Thasian I believe) is very large grained so details tend to wear off quicker but I hope the images are clear enough for people.
