Thraex outfit
#1
Hi all, next to my murmillo, I'd like to start getting my thraex kit together.
Now finding a decent sica seems the first hard part in becoming thraex.
I do not find any site where i can buy a practise sword to start with unless it's customed by a blacksmith. Anyone got some clues where to start.
Another thing... searching these sites for sicas I eventually ran across a khopesh or egyptian sword. It has also this curved angle but is more sickle like? Would this also be appropeate for thraex?

What period are you trying to recreate? Republican-era depictions show the Thraex with fully developed greaves and shield, but with an open-faced helmet and using a sica with a curved blade, rather than the later angled blade. Atlanta Cutlery and Replika.com both sell a curved kindjal at a very reasonable price that can easily be customized into a Republican-era sica.
