Latin questions from a non-Latin type
#1
I can't find these anywhere in my textbooks, and put the thread here as a couple of them are to do with gladiators.

Does anyone know what the Latin singular of noxii is?
Or the plural of palus?
And the plural of rhomphaia?
Is the plural of signifer signiferi?
What is the plural of as?

Many thanks.

Do you mean noxius, which is the Latin adjective meaning, well ..., "noxious"?! (It can also mean "harmful", the way noxious things usually are.)

Depends. If you mean the wooden stake, it's pali. If you mean the swamp, it's paludes.

Rhomphaia isn't a Latin word. Greek nouns in -ia go to -iai in plural, so I'd guess rhomphaiai.

Yup.
Quote:What is the plural of as?
asses.

I thought that was where 'noxious' must have come from.
The palus ref. is to do with gladiators, so pali.
I'm writing about peltasts, but had no idea how to pluralise (is that a word?) a Greek word.
I wasn't sure if asses was the plural.
Many many thanks Duncan!
