It's indeed what Robinson classified as a cavalry sports helmet. However, Junkelmann recently pointed out (amongst) others that these helmets were most probably also used in combat, and that's also the view I share.
As for the 'vision' statement, from my own experience of fighting as a secutor, with also only two small eyeholes, I can perfectly live with that. You just have to get used to it and think a little more in advance, but it's all very possible to do. I've been using this helmet on horseback one time, and need a lot of hours riding before I feel safe to use this helmet at speed, I imagine, but it's certainly duable.
