Pelta
#1
Avete omnes,

with a round piece of wood you can do easily a pelta, I glued three pieces of plywood of 4mm and then, using belts, I gave him a little curve shape, now I'm looking for something to cover it, as leather or something similar, this is a pic of the rogue product [Image: Fotografie-0066.jpg]

it's too small, I did it with the phone

Looks almost like the one I traced onto ply this afternoon. What's your dimensions?

My wife has the camera, so I can't up a photo. I made it a 32" (81.3 cm) diameter circle, and it's about 25" (63.5 cm) from top to bottom. I plan to cover the outside with felt, soaked in diluted carpenter's glue, then paint that. That could be on the smallish side, but It's the size of the piece of wood I had on hand.

Same dimensions! I prefer using leather 'cause my aunt has a factory of shoes so I'll find what I need easily

Heh! So either we're both right, or we're both wrong. In any case, we'll both have shields completed one of these days, eh?

Yesterday I was thinking about the picture to paint on the shield! Here there are some pics [url:28xc3nr0]http://home.exetel.com.au/thrace/peltasts_main.htm[/url]

Looks like you're planning to leave the backside unpainted. I don't have a problem there, but since you'll be outside, perhaps in inclement weather, it might be good to give it a little oil-based wood protector. Just a thought.

I like the use of those round-head tacks. They don't need any kind of washers on the leather side. I'm supposing you clinched them over on the front side? Or were they not too long for your plywood's thickness...?

Ok thanks for the advice! Yes they aren't too long for the thickness of the shield! Now I'm gonna paint it and make a draw on it, maybe the Vergina's Sun

That's coming along really nicely. Decided on a design for the finish paint? How deep of a dish is there in the pelta?

From the photos, it appears that the shield is not flat. How much of a dome shape does it have?
