The Thracian with the crest looks good, John!

Brilliant. I especially like the image with the Boeotian helmet.

Today a couple of Comitatus members decide to play at greek cavalry.

I have been working on my Scythian impression for a little while now and it is starting to come together. I have already made the soft kit but I still have to do my belt, get my weaponry together, and do some more sewing on clothing.
I also need to make a scyth saddle and tack which is a whole world in itself. Confusedhock:
But this is the effect so far:

Today we were all riding bareback. John and Colin even got leopard skins!

John was trying out various weapon combos and his new scale armour.

Colin (the other greek) is hoping to ride with us next year and as he was down at the yard doing some skill at arms, so we kidnapped him afterwards to be a Greek. He was dressed up with spare kit from the back of Joh's car, so nothing too special but a great start!

Surely 3 Greek period cavalry together must be some kind of world first?
Anyway please enjoy the pictures! 8)

None of your pictures are visible.
Nice Scyth kit. I have seen it before)
And the 2 Greeks.

Can you ask Mark why he has not responded to the e-mails I sent.

I have been attempting to ride for some time, having Greek Beotian helment, scale armour.
And a little riding experience from my past.

However, which period are you portraying?
If as you say, it is 5/4 century BC, did they have saddles in that period?
It would be interesting to see these.

They should be now.

It is best to give him a ring. He does not do email. Try early afternoon time.

Tried that and e-mail, which I understand from John his wife handles.
As I get tired of pointing out, I am only around half the time, so if it's not happening, I can spend my time persueing genuine interests.

They did use a type of felt pad saddle like this:

And some rode bareback. :-)

And they had glorious horse briddle fittings.

Very nice fittings, I could make some of those.
Where is the saddle from, and what period?

It is from Altai, the saddle is from 500 B.C, and is made from felt and leather.

Easy to make then. Looks like a Harly seat! lol
I see it also has a wooden frame.

Any bigger/higher resolution pictures of the harness fittings?

I suppose you'll be going for the tattoo's next?
Some very well preserved bodies of Scythians from that region, including the icemaiden.
