horse racing in late antiquity

Ave Civitas,

I was wondering about horse and chariot racing.

Everybody seems to know about the chariot races, but I assume that they also had horse races.

Second question. Does anyone know the betting patterns, schemes that the track bettors had. In that, today you can bet win, place and show (1st, 2nd and 3rd place). Does anyone know if they had similar betting patterns then or were they just betting on the winner and every other horse / team was just an "also ran"?
