Recreating Roman Building Materials
#16
Thank you Viventius for that PDF file on tiles in York. I have been reading reports from Alan McWhirr and Gerald Brodribb. But the PDF is in the area that our group does as a Legio and I will find it very helpful. Thanks again! Big Grin

Glue and sawdust makes a good filler. Cheaper than plastic wood, and doesn't smell nearly so bad.

They is a find of Roman roof tiles that came from Gaul. So it is possible for me to ship mass amounts of tiles across the ocean to Britain. So if you see a bunch of carts showing up on your land with these boxes dont be shocked!!!! Confusedhock:

Saw dust included!!! No extra charge! Big Grin

Just for your information the average wieght of one tegula is 13.6 pounds and the average wieght of a imbrices is 5.6 pounds. Maybe you will need 104.5 tons of materials to be shipped across the ocean or 12,000 tegulae, 12,000 imbrix and maybe 1,500 antifixes?

Yeah, that'll do. As long as your rowing, you might as well bring a few friends to do the building work too!
I'll be busy campaigning btw

Here are a couple more of the tegulae I have made. One is a couple of a tile in the Museum of London. The other is a tile with a center hole for letting smoke out of a building.

On a different topic about a carpenters level M. Demetrius was talking about "Now, to fill it with tools, and climb a ladder--there's the test."
Here is the result of me filling my bag up with tools and climbing up the ladder. The bag felt great on my back climbing up the ladder and I had no problem getting tools out of the bag. No need to climb down the ladder to get other tools. The bag was thirteen pounds and filled with chisels, hammers, level, ruler, calipers, gouges, mallet, file, adze hammer, bow drill, trowel, draw knife, and spokeshave. Everything that I needed to do work!!
