Third meeting of the ancient Greek world with its\' neighbour
#1
Chairete,

we'd like to invite you to the "Third meeting of the ancient Greek
world with its' neighbouring peoples". The event will take place on
August 22nd and August 23rd this year at the site of the
"Freilichtmuseum Heuneburg" near Sigmaringen, Southern Germany. It is possible for
you to arrive on August 21st.

The museum is an open-air museum built on the site of the residence of
an ancient Celtic sovereign. The findings are dated to the 6th and 5th century
BC. Some of the houses and a part of the Greek wall have been
reconstructed. There have been findings of ancient Greek pottery
leading to the assumption that regular trade relations existed between the
Celts and the Hellenic civilization. It is possible that the Heuneburg
is the site of the ancient Celtic settlement Pyrene mentioned by
Herodotus. For more detailed information on the museum and the history
of the Celtic residence have a look at http://www.heuneburg.de .

On the base of these trade relations in cooperation with the museum
administration we are organizing an event, gathering reenactors of the
ancient world. The event focuses on the time period from 6th to 2nd century
BC and we'd like to welcome all impressions of the Classical and
Hellenistic Greek world and all cultures that were in contact with it.

On this weekend you can join us in the following activities:
- demonstration of wepons and tactics
- "fashion parade" of civil and military clothing and equipment
- reconstruction of an ancient ball game
- reconstruction of a Greek sacrifice ceremony
- cooking using traditional ancient Greek recipe
- bronze casting
- dyeing of natural cloths
- puppet theater for children showing ancient fables
- a concert of "Musica Romana" playing ancient Greek and Roman music ( http://www.musicaromana.de/ )

We're looking forward to see you on the event. Please let us know
if you plan to participate.

Best Wishes
The Hetairoi
