brazing plated metal?
#1
i am not far from completing my goat cheek pieced helm.

however i am in two minds as to whether i should strip the shiny shiny tinplating from the strip that will hang from the brass dome that i will have it brazed to.

I have removed the "tin" (at least I think it is) from the goats horn. It looks excellent to have the contrasting colour/metal.-It is brass underneath....

I put lines with a chisel along the brow that would look excellent if stripped of the plating also.

My questions are these.

1) Will the helmet be able to be brazed with the plating on??

If it can't then it will have to go.

At the moment it looks very similar to the famous thrakian silver greaves and I would like to retain the clash of colours.

2) Is there anything similar to the antiche helmet book??

hope to hear from educated & knowledgable follk soon

I'm probably not alone in saying that I would have to see a picture to have a chance at answering effectively.

Well it'd really help to know just what material exactly you're trying to work with- possibly tin-plated what? And do you definitely mean brazing or do you mean soldering?
