An important museum development
#1
The Heritage Lottery Fund has just announced a donation of more than £9m towards the Great North Museum Project in Newcastle upon Tyne. This will see the Hancock Museum, Shefton Museum, Hatton Gallery, and (most importantly from our point of view) the Museum of Antiquities united under one roof. More details here:
That's worrying in a way, as it will mean the specialists could be superseded by generalists. The £millions could go mainly towards administration, or areas more general. If a localised budget is kept to a local interest, at least it only goes to that local interest. Add to that the extra politics of expert field against expert field for budget money, well......
It's sometimes the better orator wins the day. Unless someone from the Lottery Fund can comment. But, they're not likely to read this post, if you see what I mean. The extra money is great, but where it will go is anyone's guess.
But, you never know, most of it may go towards the Hadrian's Wall projects Let's hope it's spread evenly.

Edited by: Tarbicus at: 1/27/05 11:34 am
