The picture you show is the Ermine street guard, which portray the second half of the 1st centure AD. So that's also after Augustus died. More in the Flavian times. (and then your combo of Gallic G, rect. scutum, pompeii gladius and Segmentata will be correct)
Okay, maybe this sounds a little bit hard, but there still a lot to learn and to choose. That's no problem. We all started once, where enthusiastic, etc. Now, we want to prevent others from making the same mistakes we made, and that was mainly buy stuff to fast. (without proper knowledge and research). I mean, having to replace a helmet which doesn't fit your own 'requirements' anymore is more expensive then save some more money at first and buy the right one directly. So, try to find a nearby group, and as you still want to start one on your own, start with deciding which period, which part of the empire (so which legion (if you want to portray a particular legion)). Then start looking how soldiers of that period whould have looked like and buy some gear.
