Marne Coolus helmets (aka \'reversed jockey cap\')
#1
Avete,

Keltica Authentic makes an early Coolus type helmet as seen below :

My question : can this be 'Romanised' into a Caesarian helmet by simply attaching cheek guards ?

Or is the bowl too simple for that period ?

Thanks in advance Smile

If tit's made in copper-alloy, you can used as it is. Is a Coolus-Manheim, without cheekpieces, both used by gauls and romans.

It's made from mild steel. :| I assume no iron examples are known from the archaeological record ?

Ah..., interesting. It's nice to find alternatives to Montefortino helmets. Smile

I only know exemplars of roman Coolus-Manheim in copper-alloys. But there are some gaul so-called "jockey caps" in iron, so...

My quess is that it must be possible to get this helmet in Bronze also.

hmm...if it's made from a single piece I would consider it. Otherwise it seems too pricey for a simple cap. I'll ask about it.

Thanks. Smile
