Roman Legionaries training?
#1
Would they have been trained in Boxing and Pankration? Or would that have been reserved for the Elite units?

Salve,
I have to confess that I havenever read about unarmed combat training, but IMO It was possible that legionaries were trained in this style of unarmed combat. But it is only my supposition.

The topic sounds familiar. Didn't this get discussed once before, with the general conclusion that boys would be familiar with wrestling and boxing techniques of their day as a normal course of growing up?

Soldiers may have had some training in unarmed combat, but they were rarely separated from a blade at the belt. I'm pretty sure it was against regulations for an active duty soldier to be unarmed in normal situations, including work duty (digging, carpentry) and a trip to the Vicus.
