Equipment for and extra large tribune
#1
Hey everyone, Asking this question on behalf of our legions tribune who is to lazy (go figure for a tribune) to ask it himself. He is a very large individual, 6-10 400lbs, and thus has a hell of a time finding armor, a subarmalis, belt, helmet ect. that will fit him. Does anyone know of somewhere reasonably priced where we can get stuff for him? Since he is a tribune we would be looking for the appropriate muscalata armor, and a subarmalis of some sort to wear underneath. I know alot of you would make it yourselves, but none of us have the metalworking or leatherworking skill or time to make this from scratch, we can alter things however if they are close. Right now he has a terrible muscalata and only wears the front piece (since thats all that fits him), and since i'm trying to strive for as much authenticty as possible in our group its driving me nuts. Also, what is a good source for a circ. 70 a.d. or so helmet for a tribune, he bought his own and to my horror it was a trooper helmet (oh the joys of starting my own group).

Any help would be welcome so I can get him kicked in the a$$ to get some more authentic equipment.

Maybe a toga would be better than a military appearance?

Yeah, good idea--"The toga hides a multitude of sins!" But if he has to go military, it shouldn't be much problem since most good tribune gear has to be custom-made anyway! Pick a trustworthy craftsman for each item and send them measurements and money. Simple. Not cheap, of course, and not quick! And of course, not even really "simple" because a "trustworthy" craftsman is hard to find.

Oh, and make it clear to every new recruit to NOT buy anything without prior approval! The enthusiastic ones are the most dangerous. Presumably you've been to the Legio XX site?

Thanks guys, he has a toga, and that is what he usually wears, but he wants to get more into the military side of things.

I have used the Leg XX site extensively with my own kit and that of the other guys, that said our tribune was a little enthusiastic like you said and went e-bay crazy, picking up all the bad repro stuff the cr@p mongers were selling, from a trooper helmet with nylon (yep nylon) crest, to a bizarre looking maintz-pompeii style hybrid gladius, pretty much everything to avoid unless you are in a mel gibson movie. The one point of redemption is that we made his tunic and toga out of wool with the proper purple striping because I helped....AHH!

Again thanks for the help, trying to get a new group going from the ground up, so all these bits of advice help TONS, and the Leg XX handbook has been a great help (at least when people follow it).

Laudes to you both for helping!
