Edessa 260 AD
#1
Hello altogether,

I have some questions about that certain battle, wherein Sassanian king Shapur I. crushed a huge Imperial Roman field army and captured emperor Valerian alive with a vast host of Roman soldiers.

Do we know some more details about that battle? About the course of battle? Used strategies?
Composition of the armies?

Does anybody know more?

Best regards

Andreas

David Potter writes about it in The Roman Empire at Bay. I was surprised how many details we know about those campaigns.
