There are power outages all over the East and Midwest of the USA right now due to severe winter weather. This might explain some of the difficulties.

last thursday was when the infamous ice storm hit.

there are still areas of Massachusetts and New Hampshire (I'm sure others, as well), that have yet to have power restored.

There has also been extensive flooding as I understand it in Maryland, there was a big news story about some cars being caught in a flash flood on a roadway, shut down the area and needed a whole rescue team...

One city in Mass - Fitchburg - has an area that had been without power for over a week, then got power back just in time for the nearly 2 feet of snow, then promptly lost power again. The particular power/utility company servicing the area is facing lawsuits and investigations as to why power couldn't have been restored faster...It's getting ugly.

Could also be a virus or hackers htting the system.

But I do indeed hope people down there are doing OK.

Avete!

Yeah, it's been a pain not being able to get to my own sites!! The guys who run the server are in Atlanta, Georgia, and I have no idea what the problem is besides what the message says. They shouldn't have had much more ice than us, generally much less, and we really haven't had any! But I sure hope they get it back up SOON...

The humongo water main break in Bethesda, MD happened a few miles from where I work. A 56-inch pipe! The whole area lost water pressure. So the Navy hospital base, including my agency, closed down and we all went home. (Not a big deal in the case of my library, I think we had 4 patrons at the time.) Pretty much back to normal now, though the actual flood site is still closed to traffic. Luckily it's not near my commuting route. It's always interesting how basically local news around here becomes international!

The weather for DC's Christmas has been very mild and partly cloudy. Beats an ice storm all hollow.

Valete!

I jsut saw the image, which i assume was this incident, and thw flow of water was pretty powerful. Confusedhock: I wouldn't want to be caught in a torrent like that!

We had a water main bust here in the city 2 years ago. It was the feeder line for the fire department connection. City Hall's basement became our new indoor pool....
