There is a draft date for the St. Albans event, carefully set to avoid the other weekends. A report to secure finance is being prepared, and if successfull the event will be advertised in due course. But it's too early to advertise the date and start getting people to book holidays yet. It's over a year away .......

Well Byron, you've got a fantastic helmet to start things off! There is some really great kit- John of Comitatus is very helpful here.
Cheers

The bad news is that Ribchester, Caerleon and St. Albans (finances permitting) are all aiming for the same weekend, the second weekend in July. Hopefully there may be some leeway for moving dates a weekend here or there, but something will have to give.

That's indeed not very thoughtful of them. Although, St. Albans have still not officially confirmed their dates, so maybe they can move their weekend.

They'll all be wanting to hold events during the annual Festival of British Archaeology to capitalise on visitor numbers I would imagine. Still, it runs for a fortnight these days, that's three weekends to spread things out a bit. The Caerleon event will definately be timed to coincide with next years excavations at Caerleon but the date for that hasn't been confirmed yet (my partner will be one of the supervisors...I'll get her to talk to Pete guest, see what's going on).

There's a very good chance that there will be at least one additional 410 event that hasn't been disclosed yet. Strings are being pulled, favours called in, people leaned on etc.

Hi !

I guess that continental troops would be happy to give a hand for the events (if the british do agree to let us come in order to leave Britannia after the festivities) !

We thought that if the schedule is ideally favourable we could perhaps participate to one event a first week end, then spending a week touring british museums and sites and participating to a second event the next week-end before going home in Brittany. It would be really great to meet you all on a same site at least for a same day
Do I make a mistake if I figure that 2010 in UK will be THE major event of the late and sub-roman year in Europe ?

Which days are discussed ?
Sundays for july 2010 are : 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th.

Good luck for negociations

Bye ! Greg

I've talked to all their events mangers over the past few days. Caerleon has some flexibility, but St Albans is tied to it's Arts Festival, not the Festival of British Archaeology.

Greg, most British events last the whole weekend, not just Sundays. You should be able to do two successive weekend late Roman re-actments somewhere in the UK. Comitatus put on 10 weekends per year and there will be others.

And this is also the World Cup Final weekend as well

It probably will not involve England, but the Dutch have a chance Smile

French should be available for roman activities... Almost no doubt about that !

Thank you for the informations John. I hope to be able to stay ten days in Britannia. Negociating rounds with my beloved dragon can begin...
