A. I am researching Roman Tingitania for my novel. I have found the duty stations of many of the units under the Count of Tingitania:
Tamuco; alae Herculeae
Duga; cohortis secundae Hispanorum
Aulucos; cohortis primae Herculeae
Castrabarensis; cohortis primae Ityraeorum
Pacatiana; cohortis Pacatianensis
and
Friglas; with cohortis tertiae Asturum, Equites scutarii seniores, Equites sagittarii seniores and Equites Cordueni
B. I have located Sala where the cohortis primae was stationed,
C. However I cannot locate the others on my copy of a Ptolemy map (from the Lacus Curtius web site - a really great site,) or by searching for their names using an internet search engine.
D. Does anyone have any information of where these stations were? Is there a map that I may be able to access that shows their locations or a listing of their current names if the places still exist?
E. Does anyone have any information on Oppidium Novum, also in Tingitania. By comparing current maps with Ptolemy’s, it looks like it might be half way between Ouezzane and the coast, , possibly near Ksar el Kabir but, of course, I am not sure.
