The Salting of the Carthage fields. Fact or Fiction
#1
I'm not trying to step on toes or anything but I was just thinking about this. Do you realize how much salt would be needed for such a task? And in the ancient world, salt is a highly prized commodity. Worth more than gold and other precious metals in many places. Would they really have wasted all that salt? How did they spread it? How much would be needed? Where would they get all the salt they needed?

Just some thoughts that popped into my head.

It's apparently untrue, and discussed fairly recently: <!-- l <a class="postlink-local" href="http://www.romanarmytalk.com/rat/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=25007">viewtopic.php?f=17&t=25007<!-- l

I suppose one could always have used salt water. Seems a pretty cheap solution. They had the man power and the means to do it. I doubt there would have been long term damage caused by this, but it would have killed all the crops and put them back a few seasons.
