Greenwood bends easier than dry.
A marching camp is unlikely to set itself up for such operations.. staying a week? .. to make repairs or resupply? Then let's make stuff... heat or steam bending not possible? ... then affix and/or lash a short cross pole to a sapling..
I rather think that for a campaign poles would be purpose grown, contracted for and that extras would accompany the baggage
Another intriguing possibility when using a steam bent pole shaped into a "T" is that it can be used for holding up a tent...
